Box Score 2 CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst volleyball team improved to 13-1 on the season by scoring three-set wins over Benedictine University and 17th-ranked Christopher Newport University at the University of Chicago Tournament.
Elmhurst finished the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record by downing Benedictine 25-10, 25-20, 25-18 and sinking Christopher Newport 25-18, 25-23, 25-13.
ELMHURST 3, BENEDICTINE 0 - Elmhurst won its fifth straight contest with a convincing 25-10, 25-20, 25-18 win over Benedictine University.
Sam Szarmach powered Elmhurst's offense with 13 kills, five digs and two blocks.
Marci Novak added nine kills and seven digs while
Kaitlyn Wilks,
Megan Reynolds and
Jess Suarez totaled five kills apiece. Reynolds added a match-high six blocks in the victory for the Bluejays.
Lauren Lorenz finished with a team-leading 22 assists while
Katie Rueffer finished with 12 assists.
Hannah Lessen totaled a team-high 12 digs in the win.
ELMHURST 3, CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT 0 - The Bluejays rattled off their sixth-straight victory in a match that featured two national semifinalists from the 2012 NCAA Tournament.
The Bluejays pounded down 20 kills and committed just three errors in the opening set and then finished with 19 kills in the second set. The Bluejays closed the third set with 11 kills while Christopher Newport committed nine errors.
Three Bluejays reached double figures in kills. Wilks pounded down 14 kills while hitting .737 and adding four blocks. Novak added 12 kills, eight digs and three blocks while Szarmach totaled 11 kills and 10 digs. Reynolds added seven kills and four blocks. Rueffer totaled 21 assists while Lorenz added 20. Lessen finished with a team-leading 12 digs.
