Softball Team Drops Two at Illinois Wesleyan

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Elmhurst softball team fell to 0-4 in the CCIW after dropping both ends of a doubleheader at Illinois Wesleyan. The Bluejays dropped both games by 2-1 final scores.

ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 2, ELMHURST 1 - Elmhurst grabbed a 1-0 lead, but the third-ranked Titans evened the game with a run in the bottom of the fifth and scored the game-winner on a wild pitch in the seventh.

The Bluejays broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning. With one out, Ele Walter singled and came around to score on Brianna Thompson's RBI triple.

Elmhurst's lead was short lived as the Titans made the Bluejays pay for a base on balls. After a leadoff walk in the bottom of the fifth, pinch runner Katie Bruns scored on Courtney Martin's RBI single.

The Titans took advantage of another leadoff walk in the seventh. Pinch runner Erin Sweeney moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Sweeney move to third on a wild pitch and then came home to score the winning run on two-out wild pitch.

Walter and Thompson finished with two hits apiece to lead the Bluejays at the plate.

Tiffany Potthast took the loss for the Bluejays, allowing just three hits and two runs to the Titans. She walked four and struck out one in 6.2 innings of work.

ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 2, ELMHURST 1 (Game Two) - The Bluejays dropped their second straight one-run game to the Titans, falling by an identical 2-1 score.

Illinois Wesleyan grabbed a quick 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first. The Bluejays threatened to pull even in the bottom of the frame, loading the bases with just one out. Elmhurst couldn't come up with a key hit and left the bases loaded.

The Bluejays received a key-two out double from Katie Boals in the third inning to even the score at one. Boals' double drove home Lindsey Mikulecky who led off the inning with a single.

The Titans took advantage of a pair of Elmhurst errors to move in front 2-1 in the fifth inning.

The Bluejays were held in check by the Titans' Alyssa Vorel. Vorel retired the final 13 straight hitters while allowing just four hits and one run.

Boals suffered the tough loss from the circle for Elmhurst. She allowed seven hits and just one earned run while walking four and striking out two.

Elmhurst continues CCIW play on Tuesday by hosting North Central College.
