Box Score 2 DECATUR, Ill. - The Elmhurst softball team opened CCIW play by dropping a doubleheader at Millikin University. The Bluejays dropped the opening contest 6-3 and fell 10-0 in game two.
MILLIKIN 6, ELMHURST 3 - Millikin scored three in the first inning and tacked on three in the fourth inning and then held on for the 6-3 victory.
Millikin's Janet Ellis sparked the three-run first inning with a two-run homer and Cora Jeffers keyed the fourth inning with a two-run blast of her own.
Elmhurst got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning on RBI singles from
Katie Boals and
Clare Bukowski. The Bluejays made it 6-3 in the sixth inning when
Bella Masini singled home a run. The Bluejays brought the tying run to the plate in the sixth, but couldn't overcome the three-run deficit.
Masini,
Meg Griffin and
Lindsey Mikulecky each recorded two hits apiece to lead the Bluejays in the loss.
Tifanny Pothast slipped to 7-4 on the season after taking the loss from the circle. She surrendered nine hits and five earned runs in six innings of work. Potthast walked one and fanned three in the outing.
MILLIKIN 10, ELMHURST 0 - The Bluejays dropped to 0-2 in league play after suffering a 10-0 loss to the Big Blue in game two.
Millikin scored three in the second, three in the fourth and four in the fifth to blow the game open. Six Elmhurst errors led to four unearned runs for the Big Blue.
Mikulecky and Potthast recorded two hits apiece in the Elmhurst loss.
Boals took the loss, suffering her first defeat of the season (6-1). She surrendered 14 hits and six earned runs in five innings of work. She walked one and fanned three.
Elmhurst (13-5 overall) plays a doubleheader at Illinois Wesleyan on Sunday (April 7).
