Softball Team Splits Doubleheader at North Park

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst softball team closed out the CCIW season by splitting a doubleheader at North Park. The Bluejays won game one 3-2 in nine innings before falling 6-3 in the night cap.

ELMHURST 3, NORTH PARK 2 - Tiffany Potthast drove home the winning run in the ninth inning and notched the win from the circle to help the Bluejays to a 3-2 win in game one.

Elmhurst grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second inning, taking advantage of three North Park errors to score a pair of runs.

North Park (22-12, 4-8 CCIW) evened the score with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but Potthast used a one-out single to drive home the winning run in the ninth inning for the Bluejays.

Meg Griffin, Potthast and Rachel Cooke finished with two hits apiece in the win. Cooke drove in a run and Potthast knocked in two.

Potthast went the distance for the Bluejays to record the win. She scattered six hits and allowed just two unearned runs in nine innings of work. She walked one and fanned one.

NORTH PARK 6, ELMHURST 3 - North Park salvaged a split in the doubleheader with a 6-3 win in game two. The Vikings scored a run in each of the first three innings and then pulled away for a 6-3 win.

Clare Bukowski
Elmhurst scored a pair of runs in the second inning on a two-run double from Clare Bukowski. The Bluejays added a run in the sixth on a Bukowski sacrifice fly.

Bukowski finished 2-for-2 and drove in all three runs for the Bluejays.

Katie Boals took the loss for Elmhurst, surrendering 10 hits and five earned runs in seven innings. She walked one and struck out one.

Elmhurst closes the 2013 season on Tuesday by hosting the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in a doubleheader at Salt Creek Park.
