WHITEWATER, Wis. - The Elmhurst men's tennis team slipped to 12-9 on the season following an 8-1 loss at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
UW-Whitewater, ranked 28th nationally and fifth in the region, won all three doubles contests and five singles matches en route to the 8-1 victory.
In doubles play, Mitch Osborne and Ben Shklyar downed Elmhurst's
Alex Harbert and
Will Jung 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. Andy McGlashen and Andrew Bayliss defeated
Chris Harrison and
Luke Tanaka 8-1 at No. 2 doubles while Byron Balkin and Jake Humphreys edged the Bluejays' duo of
Vincent McPherson and
Kevin Noble 9-7 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Harbert, ranked 16th in the region, toppled fifth-ranked Shklyar 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles to account for Elmhurst's only point.
Balkin earned a win over Jung at No. 2 singles after Jung was forced to default. McGlashen downed McPherson 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles while Bayliss defeated Tanaka 7-5, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. Osborne stoppled Elmhurst's
Quinn Jennings 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 singles while Brian Klein closed out singles play for the Warhawks with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Harrison at No. 6 singles.
Elmhurst, ranked 15th in the latest ITA Central Region Rankings will play at the CCIW Championships in Bloomington next Weekend (May 3-4). The Bluejays are the top seed in the tournament after finishing CCIW play unbeaten (5-0).
