Softball Team Splits Pair at Wheaton

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WHEATON, Ill. - The Elmhurst softball team ran its record to 15-13 on the season after splitting a doubleheader at Wheaton College. The Bluejays fell 8-7 in game one but bounced back to take game two 7-5.

WHEATON 7, ELMHURST 6 - Wheaton scored three runs in the final two innings to rally past Elmhurst 7-6 in game one.

Wheaton (17-14 overall, 5-7 CCIW) opened up a 4-0 lead, but the Bluejays scored six straight runs to grab a 6-4 lead entering the bottom of the sixth.

The Bluejays scored two runs on wild pitches in the fourth and added another on Stephanie Mathe's RBI single. Elmhurst went on top 5-4 in the fifth inning on RBI single from Bella Masini and a groundout from Tiffany Potthast. An Ele Walter RBI single in the sixth gave Elmhurst a 6-4 cushion.

Wheaton tied the game in the sixth on back-to-back RBI doubles from Christina Sandstedt and Suzanne Teuben. Shannah Morris singled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh to give Wheaton the win.

Walter and Mathe recorded two hits apiece to lead the Bluejays at the plate.

Potthast slipped to 7-9 while taking the loss for the Bluejays. She surrendered 13 hits and seven runs in 6.1 innings of work. She walked three and struck out six.

ELMHURST 7, WHEATON 5 - Elmhurst banged out 15 hits in a 7-5 win over the Thunder to salvage a doubleheader split.

The Bluejays scored three runs in the second after Stephanie Hintz was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Walter followed with a two-run single. Potthast gave Elmhurst a 5-3 lead in the third with a two-run single.

Wheaton tied the game in the top of the sixth with a pair of runs, but RBI singles from Walter and Masini gave Elmhurst the lead for good.

Walter led the Bluejays with a 3-for-4 day at the plate while also driving in two. Boals added three hits and an RBI while Potthast knocked in two runs on a pair of hits.

Boals picked up the win for the Bluejays, improving to 8-4 in the process. She scattered 10 hits and one walk over seven innings. She allowed four earned runs while striking out two.

Elmhurst plays at North Park University on Sunday (April 28).
