Bukowski's Homer Helps Bluejays Earn Split With Augustana

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ELMHURST, Ill. - Clare Bukowski's walk off two-run homer helped the Elmhurst softball team to a doubleheader split with Augustana. Elmhurst took the opening game 2-1 before falling 6-3 in game two.

Elmhurst moved to 14-10 overall and 1-6 in the CCIW with the split.

ELMHURST 2, AUGUSTANA 1 - Elmhurst trailed for the entire contest until Bukowski bashed a two-run walk-off homer to center field to lift the Bluejays to a 2-1 win over the Vikings.

Augustana (21-11, 6-6 CCIW) got on the scoreboard in the first inning on Chaney Tambling's two-out RBI double.

The Viking's Sarah Hintz cruised through the first six innings, allowing just one hit and one walk before the Bluejays broke through in the seventh. With one out, Meg Griffin roped a double to right center field. After flying out to the warning track in her previous at-bat, Bukowski hammered a pitch over the fence in center field to give the Bluejays the victory.

Katie Boals recorded her seventh win of the season (7-3), scattering eight hits and one walk while allowing just one earned run. She struck out four in the win.

AUGUSTANA 6, ELMHURST 3 - Augustana played long ball, bashing four homes en route to the 6-3 win in game two to salvage a split against the Bluejays.

The Vikings' Krista Watson and Christie Wiersema both smacked a pair of solo homers in the contest  to spark the Vikings offense. Wiersma's first homer came in the fourth inning to tie the score at 3-3. Watson's second homer of the game in the fifth, putting the Vikings on top 4-3.

Boals, Griffin and Bella Masini all drove in runs for the Bluejays in the loss.

Tiffany Potthast took the loss for Elmhurst, slipping to 7-7 on the season. She allowed 12 hits and five earned runs while striking out two in six innings of work.

Elmhurst hosts Carthage College on Tuesday (April 23).
