Bluejays Split Final Pair of Florida Contests

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. - The Elmhurst softball team closed out its annual spring break trip to Florida by splitting a pair of contests, finishing the trip with a 9-3 record.

Elmhurst (11-3) opened the day with an 11-3 loss to Middlebury before closing the trip on a high note with a 15-5 win over Buffalo State.

MIDDLEBURY 11, ELMHURST 3 - Elmhurst's defense struggled in the squad's second straight loss, committing six errors in an eight-run defeat to Middlebury.

The Bluejays fell behind 4-0 after an inning and a half and Middlebury (5-4) put the game out of reach with a five-run seventh inning.

Meg Griffin and Bella Masini collected two hits apiece to pace Elmhurst's offense in the loss.

Tiffany Potthast took the loss from the circle, slipping to 6-3 on the year. Potthast allowed 10 hits and six earned runs over seven innings of work. She walked four and struck out two.

ELMHURST 15, BUFFALO STATE 5 - The Bluejays snapped their two-game slide with a 15-5 five-inning win over Bufffalo State.

Elmhurst's bats were rolling, banging out 21 hits over five innings en route to the 10-run victory.

The Bluejays scored six runs in the the second, added two in the fourth, and put the game out of reach with a seven-run outburst in the fifth.

Eight Elmhurst players finished with hits in the win. Lindsey Mikulecky, Katie Boals and Brianna Thompson led the way for the Bluejays, finishing a combined 12-for-12 at the plate. Mikulecky recorded four hits, scored three runs and drove in two while Boals drove home three runs on four hits. Thompson added a four-hit day with two runs scored and two driven in. Clare Bukowski added three hits for the Bluejays while Masini and Griffin finished with two hits apiece. Stephanie Hintz drove in three runs and scored twice for the Bluejays while Griffin collected a pair of RBI.

Boals upped her record to 5-0 from the circle for the Bluejays. She scattered 11 hits and two walks over five innings of work, allowing just four earned runs. She also struck out two.

Elmhurst travels to Lake Forest College on Monday, April 1.
