Softball Team Improves to 5-1 in Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. - The Elmhurst softball team upped its record to 5-1 on its Florida road trip by upending Oberlin and St. Catherine.

Elmhurst (7-1 overall), opened the day with a 9-0 shutout win over Oberlin and then toppled St. Catherine 9-4 to end the day.

ELMHURST 9, OBERLIN 0 - Elmhurst scored three times in the third and blew the game open with a six-run fourth inning to score a 9-0 win over Oberlin.

The Bluejays took advantage of a pair of Oberlin errors in the third inning to plate three earned runs. The Bluejays put the game out of reach with a six-run outburst in the fourth. RBI singles from Lindsey Mikulecky and Meg Griffin along with RBI triples from Tiffany Potthast and Clare Bukowski sparked the Bluejays in the fourth.

Masini finished 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored while Bukowski had a 2-for-3 day at the plate with two RBI.

Katie Boals upped her record to 4-0 on the season while tossing a shutout. Boals scattered four hits and four walks over five innings of work while striking out three.

ELMHURST 9, ST. CATHERINE 4 - Elmhurst bats came to life against St. Catherine as the Bluejays banged out 18 hits en route to the five-run win.

Elmhurst trailed 3-2 after three innings, but the Bluejays scored a run in the fourth, two in the fifth and four in the sixth to take control of the game.

Ele Walter led the Bluejays with four hits, including three bunt singles. Potthast and Brianna Thompson delivered three hits apiece while also scoring three runs and driving in a run each. Mikulecky and Masini drove in two runs apiece in the victory.

Potthast earned the win from the mound, improving to 3-1 on the season. She scattered eight hits and three earned runs while walking three and fanning four.
