ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss at the hands of University of Chicago to open the 2013 season.
Elmhurst (0-1) scored its only point at No. 1 doubles as the Bluejays' tandem of
Alex Harbert and
Will Jung defeated Harrison Abrams and Neil Karandikar 9-7. Chicago's Deepak Sabada and Ankur Bhargava downed
Kevin Noble and
Vincent McPherson 8-6 at No. 2 doubles while the Maroons' duo of Alexander Golovin and Kirshna Ravella defeated
Luke Tanaka and
Chris Harrison 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.
Chicago (1-0) swept all six singles contests. Sabada downed Harbert 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles while Bhargava defeated Jung 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Chicago's Jake Crawford topped McPherson 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles while Golovin upended Tanaka 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. The Maroons' Gordon Zhang downed
Quinn Jennings 7-5. 6-2 at No. 5 singles while Abramas wrapped up singles play with a 6-0, 7-6 win over Noble at No. 6 singles.
The Bluejays take on Wabash College and Lake Forest College next Saturday (February 9).
