DAVENPORT, IOWA - The Elmhurst softball team opened the 2013 with a pair of wins against Dominican and Knox.

Elmhurst (2-0) toppled Dominican 8-3 in the opening contest and then blew out Knox 13-2 in the second game of the season.

ELMHURST 13, KNOX 2 - Elmhurst opened the season by battering Knox 13-2.

The Bluejays scored twice in the first, capitalizing on a passed ball and a Clare Bukowski ground out. The Bluejays broke through in th second, scoring seven times, keyed by a two-run triple from Bella Masini and RBI singles from Lindsey Mikulecky, Tiffany Potthast and Ele Walter.

The Bluejays put the game away in the fourth inning by scoring four runs.

Potthast picked up the win from the circle, tossing five innings and allowing just two earned runs while scattering nine hits over five innings. She walked four and fanned five while earning the win.

ELMHURST 8, DOMINICAN 3 - The Bluejays moved to 2-0 on the year by defeating Dominican 8-3.

The Bluejays scored a pair of runs in the first on a sacrifice fly from Tiffany Potthast sacrifice fly and a wild pitch.

Elmhurst added a pair of runs in the second on a Stephanie Hintz single and a Bella Masini double.

Elmhurst added a run in the fourth on a Mikulecky fielder's choice and then put the game out of reach in the seventh inning by scoring three times in the seventh keyed by a Mikulecky solo homer and a Bukowski RBI triple.

Katie Boals pitched for the Bluejays and tossed a complete game, working seven innings and scattering seven hits. She walked two and struck out four..
