Softball Team Splits Pair at Aurora

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 AURORA, Ill. - The Elmhurst softball team upped its record to 16-6 overall after splitting a doubleheader at Aurora University. Elmhurst dropped game one 6-5 in extra innings, but rebounded to down the Spartans 15-6 in game two.

AURORA 6, ELMHURST 5 - Elmhurst rallied from a five-run deficit but Aurora won the game with a walk-off base hit in the eighth inning.

Aurora (8-10) raced out to a 5-0 lead after one inning. Lillie Stone sparked the Spartans' inning with a three-run homer.

Elmhurst stranded six runners over the first five innings before jumping on the scoreboard in the sixth. With one out and two runners aboard, Clare Bukowski slugged a three-run homer to bring the Bluejays to within two runs. Sarah Cademartori added an RBI single to pull Elmhurst to within a run.Bukowski's homer was the ninth of her career, setting a new Elmhurst career record.

The Bluejays evened the score in the seventh on a Meg Griffin solo blast.

Stone smacked a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to give to the Spartans the win.

Lindsay Nauman took the loss for the Bluejays. Nauman allowed 11 hits and six runs in 7.1 innings of work. She walked two and fanned one.

ELMHURST 15, AURORA 6 - The Bluejays scored early and often, finishing off the Spartans in five innings.

Elmhurst jumped out to a 7-1 lead with three runs in the first and four in the third. Griffin, Rose Wysocki, and Bukowski all drove in a run in the first.

The Bluejays capitalized on an Aurora error in the third to score four unearned runs. Lindsey Mikulecky cracked a three-run homer to put Elmhurst up 7-1.

Aurora scored a run in the second and then plated four runs in the fourth to pull to within a run of the Bluejays.

Elmhurst blew the game open in the fifth by sending 13 batters to the plate and scoring eight runs. A two run single-from Tiffany Potthast and a three-run homer from Bukowski helped spark the Bluejays' offense.

Bukowski finished 2-for-4 with four RBI while Mikulecky finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Potthast also collected three hits in the victory.

Stephanie Iori earned the win for Elmhurst from the circle. Iori worked four innings, scattering eight hits and six runs (five earned). She walked three and struck out four.

Elmhurst begins CCIW play on Tuesday (April 10) by playing a doubleheader at North Central College.
