Softball Team Splits Pair With Lake Forest

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College softball team moved to 15-5 overall after splitting a doubleheader with Lake Forest College.

Elmhurst dropped game one 10-9 but rallied to earn the split with a 13-4 win in game two.

LAKE FOREST 10, ELMHURST 9 - Lake Forest scored seven runs in the second inning and held off a late rally from the Bluejays to take the opening game of the doubleheader.

Elmhurst jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning after Rose Wysocki singled home a pair of runs.

Things fell apart in the second inning for the Bluejays, as Lake Forest (7-13) capitalized on several Elmhurst miscues. The Bluejays committed two errors and three illegal pitches helped extend Lake Forest's inning. The Foresters plated seven runs and chased Elmhurst starter Stephanie Iori in the process.

The Bluejays scored three runs in the third to pull to within two. Sarah Cademartori started the scoring with a solo home run. After the Bluejays loaded the bases,Katie Boals and Julie Devine were both hit by pitches to force in runs.

Lake Forest scored twice in the top of the fourth to extend their lead to 9-5, but the Bluejays quickly responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Meg Griffin doubled home a run and Wysocki and Clare Bukowski followed with run-scoring singles.

The Foresters pushed home a run in the top of the sixth to take a 10-8 lead. The Bluejays scored one more in the bottom of the sixth, but could left the tying run on base in the seventh.

Griffin sparked the Elmhurst offense with three hits while also scoring three runs. Tiffany Potthast added two hits, scored three runs, and drove in a run. Wysocki finished with a team-leading three RBI in the loss.

Iori took the loss for the Bluejays allowing three hits and and seven runs (six earned) in just 1.1 innings of work. Potthast finished up in relief, allowing seven hits and three runs in 5.2 innings pitched.

ELMHURST 14, LAKE FOREST 9 - Lake Forest jumped out to a 4-2 lead, but Elmhurst scored 11 unanswered runs to earn the 13-4 victory.

Lake Forest scored twice in the first to grab a quick 2-0 lead, but Meg Griffin launched a solo homer to left field to even the score. After Lake Forest scored twice in the top of the second, the Bluejays blew the game open with five runs in the bottom half of the inning. Potthast doubled home a run while Lindsey Mikulecky and Griffin both had two-run singles in the second.

Mikulecky smashed a three-run homer in the third and Potthast recorded her second straight run-scoring double to give the Bluejays an 11-4 lead.

Elmhurst won the game in the bottom of the fifth when Griffin roped a walk-off two-run double to right field.

Griffin finished 3-for-3 at the plate with a team-leading six runs driven in. Mikulecky finished with two hits and five RBI while Potthast had a pair of doubles and drove in two.

Lindsay Nauman earned the win for Elmhurst from the circle. Nauman scattered six hits and three walks while allowing four runs over five innings of work. Nauman fanned five in the victory while improving to 6-3 on the year.
