NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's tennis team kicked off CCIW competition with an 8-1 victory over North Central College.
With the victory, the Bluejays improved to 9-4 on the season. North Central slipped to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in league play.
The Bluejays swept the three doubles matches and scored wins in five of the six singles matches.
In doubles play, the Bluejays' duo of
Alex Harbert and
Will Jung toppled Will Exner and Rustam Saini 8-2 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Elmhurst's tandem of
Vincent McPherson and
Luke Tanaka scored an 8-2 win over North Central's Eric McKee and Boris Kampel. At No. 3 doubles, Elmhurst's
Kevin Noble and
Justin Guenther teamed to score an 8-6 win over Mason Sass and Andrew McKinley.
In singles play, Harbert cruised past McKee 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles while Jung followed at No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Exner. McPherson handed Kampel a 6-4, 7-6 defeat at No. 3 singles and Tanaka blanked Adam Ciccone 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. At No. 5 singles, Noble dispatched Saini 6-4, 6-4. North Central's Mason Sass scored the Cardinals' only point by toppling
Jim White 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
Elmhurst hosts Illinois Wesleyan University on Thursday (April 5).
