Box Score 2 ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst softball team rallied from a five-run deficit to score a 6-5 victory over Illinois Wesleyan University, securing the Bluejays' first trip to the CCIW Tournament in 15 years. The Bluejays split the doubleheader with the Titans, dropping game two 5-3.
With the split, the Bluejays finished CCIW play with a 7-7 mark and securing a tiebreaker over Augustana College and Millikin University for the final spot in the CCIW Tournament. Elmhurst's last trip to the CCIW Tournament came during the 1997 season.
ELMHURST 6, ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 5 (Game One) - Trailing 5-0 after five innings, the Bluejays' bats came to life in the sixth inning, scoring six times en route to the come-from-behind victory.
The Titans jumped on the scoreboard in the fourth inning when Keri Leach's low line drive got past a diving
Meg Griffin in center and rolled to the wall allowing Leach to score an inside-the-park home run.
RBI singles from Leach and Emma Clark in the fifth inning staked the Titans to a 3-0 lead. Courtney Martin blasted a two-run homer over the right field fence in the top of the sixth to give IWU a 5-0 lead.
Elmhurst slowly chipped away at the Titans' lead in the sixth.
Rose Wysocki led off the inning with a bunt singe and moved to second on
Tiffany Potthast's walk. After a fielder's choice forced Potthast at second base,
Clare Bukowski put Elmhurst on the scoreboard by ripping a double off the left field wall. A walk to
Julie Devine loaded the bases and brought the tying run to the plate.
Lindsey Mikulecky singled to center to drive in Griffin while a throwing error on the Titans allowed Bukowski to score as well.

Ele Walter to score and pull the Bluejays to within a run. After a walk to
Bella Masini put runners at the corners,
Sarah Cademartori singled to right field to drive in Mikulecky. The ball bounced past the Titans' outfielder and rolled to the wall, allowing Masini to score from first base and put Elmhurst on top 6-5.
An Elmhurst error allowed the Titan's leadoff to reach base in the top of the seventh, but Mikulecky cut down pinch runner Stephanie Polich trying to steal second. Potthast retired the last two hitters to give the Bluejays the win.
Potthast picked up the win in relief of
Lindsay Nauman. Potthast allowed just two hits and one earned run over the final 2.2 innings. Nauman earned a no-decision, surrendering seven hits and three runs in 4.1 innings of work. She walked one and fanned three.
ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 5, ELMHURST 3 (Game Two) - The Titans scored in the first three innings to open up a 4-1 lead and held on for the 5-3 win to salvage the split with the Bluejays.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first two innings, the Bluejays got on the board in the top of the third when Potthast's ground ball was booted by the Titans allowing Cademartori to score from second base.
The Titans answered back with two runs in the bottom of the third to extend their lead to 4-1. The Bluejays cashed in on a Titans' error in the fourth to score a pair of runs. A wild throw on a ground ball off of Boals' bat allowed Walter to score. Cademartori delivered a run-scoring single to make the score 4-3 in favor of the Titans.
Elmhurst put runners on second and third in the fifth inning, but couldn't come up with a two-out hit. The Titans tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth and Alyssa Vorel retired the final six Bluejays in order to preserve the win.
Stephanie Iori took the loss for Elmhurst after surrendering 10 hits, five runs, and two walks over six innings.
The CCIW tournament dates will be announced shortly after the remaining conference games are played on April 30.
