Softball Team Sweeps Doubleheader at Lawrence

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 APPLETON, Wis. - The Elmhurst College softball team improved to 24-13 after rallying past Lawrence University for a pair of victories. Elmhurst won game one 4-1 and rallied from a 6-0 deficit to win game two 8-7.

ELMHURST 4, LAWRENCE 1 - Tiffany Potthast blasted a grand slam in the seventh inning to lead the Bluejays to a 4-1 win in game one.

Lawrence (8-21) grabbed a 1-0 lead with a run in the fourth inning and the Vikings made the lead stand up until the seventh inning.

Elmhurst's bats came to life in the seventh. Katie Boals led off the frame with a single. Bella Masini followed with a bunt single. After a pop out, Rose Wysocki loaded the bases with a bunt single. Potthast gave the Bluejays their first lead of the game by blasting a grand slam to center field.

Wysocki collected three hits for the Bluejays in the win. Masini added two hits for Elmhurst.

Stephanie Iori made the start for Elmhurst and took a no-decision. She allowed just three hits and one earned run in five innings of work. She walked one and fanned one. Potthast picked up the win in relief, holding Lawrence to only three hits and no runs over the final two innings.

ELMHURST 8, LAWRENCE 7 - The Bluejays fell behind 6-0 after just two innings, but Elmhurst scored eight runs over the final four innings to finish the doubleheader sweep. Clare Bukowski belted a two-run homer in the seventh to complete the come-from-behind win.

The Bluejays got on the scoreboard in the fourth after back-to-back doubles from Wysocki and Potthast.. Elmhurst pulled to within a run in the fifth by batting around and scoring five times. Rachel Cooke drove in the first run in the fifth with an RBI double. Sarah Cademartori added an RBI single and Potthast roped her second double of the game to drive in a run. Meg Griffin ripped a double to left center to bring home two runs for Elmhurst.

Trailing by a run in the seventh, Potthast led off the inning with a single. After a flyout from Griffin, Bukowski put Elmhurst on top with a home run to left field.

Potthast finished 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI. Griffin and Bukowski also drove in two runs each.

Lindsay Nauman picked up the win in relief of Scarlett Pucci. Nauman allowed just one hit and one unearned run in 5.1 innings of work. She walked one and struck out seven while improving to 11-6 on the season.

Elmhurst hosts Illinois Wesleyan tomorrow (April 29) at 1:00 p.m. The Bluejays need to win one of the two games to secure a spot in the CCIW Tournament.
