Men's Tennis Team Falls at UW-Whitewater

WHITEWATER, Wis. -
The Elmhurst men's tennis team slipped to 10-6 on the season after dropping an 8-1 decision at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

The match was a battle of two regionally ranked squads. UW-Whitewater (15-6) entered the match ranked ninth in the region while Elmhurst is ranked 13th.

UW-Whitewater swept all six singles contests. Byron Balkin edged Elmhurst's Alex Harbert 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Andrew Bayliss followed with a 6-1, 6-4 win over the Bluejays' Will Jung at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles,the Warhawks' Andy McGlashen handed Vincent McPherson a 6-3, 6-3 defeat. Mitch Osborne toppled the Bluejays' Luke Tanaka 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. Erik Scanlon downed Kevin Noble 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 singles while the Warhawks' Brady Porter closed out Jim White 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.


Elmhurst scored its only point in doubles play. After Balkin and Osborne defeated Harbert and Jung 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, the Bluejays' duo of McPherson and Noble downed Bayliss and McGlashen 8-3 at No. 2 doubles.  Whitewater's Kevin Friend and Scanlon downed Tanaka and Guenther 8-3.  

Rain wiped out the majority of the Bluejays' scheduled contest against Carroll University. The doubles competition was completed, but no singles matches were started due to the rain. The results of the doubles matches will stand for the individual players' records, but no team result was recorded.

Harbert and Jung downed Matt Zellner and John Silseth 8-2 at No. 1 doubles. McPherson and Noble followed with an 8-5 win over Jack Michael and Ryan Fertitta at No. 2 doubles. Tanaka and Guenther teamed to defeat Frankie Giuffre and Matt Joost 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.

Elmhurst travels to Carthage College on April 18.
