Bluejay Softball Team Falls at Benedictine

Box Score LISLE, Ill. - The Elmhurst softball team suffered a 13-11 loss at Benedictine University before a power outage wiped out the second game of a scheduled doubleheader.

After dropping game one 13-11, the Bluejays were leading in the top of the fifth inning in game two when the game was stopped due to darkness. A power outage had knocked out the lights at the Lisle Sports Complex forcing the game to be stopped. It is unknown if the game will be resumed or made-up.

BENEDICTINE 13, ELMHURST 11 (Game One) - Benedictine (17-8) edged the Bluejays in slugfest. The two teams combined for 24 runs and 32 hits.

Elmhurst opened up a 1-0 lead in the top of the third on a Bella Masini sacrifice fly, but Benedictine answered back with five runs in the bottom of the inning.

Clare Bukowski singled home a run in the fourth inning to pull Elmhurst to within three runs, but the Eagles plated four runs in the bottom of the fourth to open up a 9-2 cushion.

The Bluejays erased the deficit with an eight-run fifth inning. The Bluejays banged out hits and sent 12 batters to the plate.

Sarah Cademartori started the scoring with an RBI double and later put Elmhurst on top with a bases-clearing three run double.

The Bluejays' lead was short lived as the Eagles scored four more runs in the bottom of the fifth, chasing Elmhurst starter Stephanie Iori in the process.

The Bluejays added a run in the sixth on a Julie Devine RBI single.

Cademartori led the offense with four hits and a team-leading four RBI. Bukowski collected three hits and drove in two while Katie Boals finished with three hits and scored three runs. Devine and Rose Wysocki added two hits apiece for Elmhurst.

Iori took the loss for the Bluejays surrendering 14 hits, three walks, and 13 runs in 4.1 innings of work.

Elmhurst resumes CCIW play on Saturday (April 14) with a doubleheader at Augustana College.
