Bluejays Sweep Doubleheader From North Central

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Elmhurst softball team opened CCIW play by sweeping a doubleheader at North Central College. The Bluejays scored an 8-6 victory in game one and took the nightcap 7-4.

ELMHURST 8, NORTH CENTRAL 6 (Game One) - Elmhurst (18-6, 2-0 CCIW)  opened up an 8-2 lead and held off a late rally from North Central (11-11, 1-5 CCIW).

The Bluejays jumped on the scoreboard in the third inning on Tiffany Potthast's RBI triple. The Cardinals answered back with two runs in the fourth to grab a one-run lead.

An RBI ground out from Potthast and a North Central error gave the Bluejays 3-2 lead in the fifth. A Katie Boals' fielder's choice grounder and a run-scoring single from Sarah Cademartori put the Bluejays on top 5-2 in the sixth inning.

A two-run double from Lindsey Mikulecky and the third error of the game from the Cardinals gave Elmhurst a six-run cushion in the top of the seventh.

North Central battled back in the bottom of the seventh. The Cardinals loaded the bases with one out and Mary Caron roped a three-run triple to pull the Cardinals to within three. Caon came home on a Colleen Drennan groundout to make the score 8-6. North Central put the tying runs in scoring position, but the Bluejays' Lindsay Nauman enduced Jordyn Beck to ground out to end the game.

Boals, Cademartori, Bella Masini, and Clare Bukowski finished with two hits apiece for the Bluejays. Bukowski and Masini scored twice while Potthast and Mikulecky drove in two runs apiece.

Stephanie Iori improved to 8-2 on the season with the win. She scattered six hits and six runs (four earned) in 6.1 innings of work. Iori walked four and struck out four. Nauman notched her second save of the season by recording the final two outs of the game.


ELMHURST 7, NORTH CENTRAL 4 (Game Two) - North Central scored four runs in the first inning, butthe Bluejays rallied seven unanswered runs en route to the win.

Trailing 4-0 after half an inning, Elmhurst answered back with four runs in the bottom of the first. Meg Griffin doubled home a pair of runs and then scored on Bukowski's RBI ground out. Julie Devine smacked an RBI double to knot the score at 4-4.

The Bluejays jumped in front in the fourth inning on Potthast's second double of the game. Potthast cracked a double to left to drive in Masini and Boals. Elmhurst tacked on an insurance run in the fifth on Mikulecky's run-scoring double.

Rose Wysocki finished 3-for-3 at the plate and scored a pair of runs for Elmhurst. Griffin and Potthast drove in two runs apiece in the win.

Nauman improved to 7-4 by picking up the victory. She allowed four runs and four hits while tossing a complete game. She walked four and struck out four in the win.

Elmhurst travels to Benedictine University on Thursday (April 12).
