CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's tennis team dropped to 1-1 on the season after suffering an 8-1 loss at the University of Chicago.
Chicago (3-0) swept all three doubles contests and won five of the six singles matches to earn the seven-point win.
Elmhurst's only win of the day came at No. 1 singles when
Alex Harbert upended Troy Brinker 7-6, 7-5. Chicago's Ankur Bhargava downed
Will Jung 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles and the Maroons' Alexander Golovin followed with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over
Vincent McPherson at No. 3 singles. Elmhurst's
Luke Tanaka suffered a 6-0, 6-3 defeat to Zsolt Szabo at No. 4 singles. Deepak Sabada downed Elmhurst's
Kevin Noble 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5 singles and Jan Stefanski closed out single play for the Maroons with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Elmhurst's
Justin Guenther at No. 6 singles.
In doubles play, Elmhurst's duo of Harbert and Jung fell 6 to Brinker and Stefanski at No. 1 doubles. Tanaka and McPherson were downed by Bhargava and Sabada 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. Noble and
Jim White fell to Krishna Ravella and Szabo 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
Elmhurst plays at Wabash College on February 18.
