Women's Hoops Team Ends Season With Loss at IWU

Box Score BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's basketball team's quest for a CCIW Tournament appearance came up short as the Bluejays fell 82-63 at Illinois Wesleyan University.

Trailing by seven (34-27) at halftime, Elmhurst (16-9, 7-7 CCIW) fell behind by 10 points early in the second half. The Bluejays used a 15-7 run to pull to within two points with 11 minutes remaining.

Illinois Wesleyan (20-5, 13-1 CCIW) ripped off 18 straight points over the next five minutes to open up a 20-point cushion and blow the game open. The Bluejays managed to trim the lead down to 13 points with 2:49 left on the clock, but came no closer as the Titans pulled away for the 19-point victory.

Elmhurst finished the game shooting 46.2 percent (24-of-52) from the floor, including 33.3 percent (2-of-6) from downtown. Turnovers continued to plague the Bluejays as 28 Elmhurst turnovers led to 33 points for Illinois Wesleyan. IWU shot 44.4 percent (32-of-72) from the floor, including 29.4 percent (5-of-17) from three-point range.

Tess Godhardt scored a career-high 26 points to lead the Bluejays and all scorers in the loss. Godhardt shot 12-of-18 from the floor while collecting a team-leading nine rebounds. Meghan Merklein finished with 13 points and eight rebounds in the final game of her career. Megan Ney finished her four-year career with six points. Devin Vaughn also scored six for the Bluejays.

Five players reached double figures in scoring for the Titans. Olivia Lett led the way with 18 points. Britt Hasselbring and Michelle Bilek scored 12 points apiece while Melissa Gardner and Shelby Jackson scored 10 points each.

The loss by Elmhurst dropped the Bluejays to 7-7 in CCIW play finishing in a tie with Millikin University for the fourth and final spot in the CCIW Tournament. Millikin earned the final spot to the conference tournament by virtue of a tiebreaker. The Big Blue swept seventh-place finisher Augustana, while Elmhurst split with the Vikings.
