ELMHURST, ILL. - Women's Basketball sweeps North Park in regular season play, with senior recognition, and a double-double to top the night off at R.A. Faganel Hall.
Elmhurst opened strong in the first period with a 16-0 run, including a pair of threes to close the period with a 17 point lead. By the half Elmhurst distributed their motion evenly, with pushes in the third, only shooting in the paint taking the to 23. Rounding out the night Elmhurst was able to secure another win with a final score of 74-63, with seniors Anna Kleszynski, Sierra Gibson, and Cheyenne Harris on the court to close out the honorable night.
Anna Kleszynski led the Bluejays with a double-double, posting 22 points, 11 rebounds, and combinations of a block, and a steal. Kristen Bukata saw 27 minutes of play totalling 16 points, 4 assists, and five rebounds. While Sierra Gibson and Natalie Robinson brought eight points each to the floor. Gibson posted two assists, four rebounds, and a team high of 3 steals. Beside her Robinson, collaborated with 4 assists, and five rebounds.
Off the bench Diellza Dalipi, and Ella Conyers scored 6 points each. Jayla White joined in with 2 points in the paint and a made free throw. Cheyenne Harris assisted on 2 shots, while Diamond Young and Macie Gil Ramos each added an assist.
Elmhurst's efficiency was a key factor in the victory, as the Bluejays shot 50.0 percent from the field (29-of-55). While converting 55.6 percent from the free throw line (10-of-18). The Bluejays were particularly sharp in the opening quarter, connecting at a 55.6 percent in the paint, and followed that with a 50.0 percent shooting performance in the third period. Defensively, Elmhurst held North Park to 39.7 percent shooting overall (23-of-58) and 30.4 percent from beyond the arc (7-of-23), limiting the Vikings' ability to sustain offensive momentum throughout the contest.
The Bluejays will return to play in the quarterfinal, Tuesday February 24, 7:00 PM at Carthage.
