Bluejay Softball Team Drops Pair at Illinois Wesleyan

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -
The Elmhurst College softball team fell to 7-13 overall and 1-3 in the CCIW after dropping a pair of contests at Illinois Wesleyan University. Elmhurst dropped game one 11-9 and fell 14-3 in game two.

ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 11, ELMHURST 9 -
Illinois Wesleyan rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to score a 9-11 victory over the Bluejays.

Elmhurst led 9-5 after four-and-a-half innings, but the Titans scored five times in the bottom of the fifth to leap in front of the Bluejays. The Titans big inning was keyed was keyed by a pair of hits. Illinois Wesleyan loaded the bases with two outs, and Kayla Mahoney cleared the bases with a three-run double. Katie Bruins followed with a two-run homer to put the Titans on top 10-9. Illinois Wesleyan added an insurance run on Emma Clark's solo home in the sixth inning.

Trailing 3-0 after one inning, the Bluejays surged in front of the Titans when Julie Devine belted a grand slam in the top of the second. Illinois Wesleyan scored twice in the fourth inning to take a 5-4 lead, but Elmhurst plated five runs in the fifth inning, taking advantage of a key error on the Titans. Katie Hruby, Rose Wysocki, and Devine all drove in runs for Elmhurst in the inning. 

Hruby finished a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, scoring two runs for the Bluejays. Devine collected two hits and drove in five while Clare Bukowski and Sarah Cademartori collected two hits apiece.

Stephanie Iori took the loss for Elmhurst, surrendering nine hits and eight earned runs. She walked three and struck out three in 4.2 innings of work.

ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 14, ELMHURST 3 - The Titans scored in each of the first four innings, while pulling away to a 14-3 five-inning victory.

Illinois Wesleyan scored two in the first, six in the second, five in the third, and one in the fourth to earn the win.

Elmhurst fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first, but the Bluejays evened the score at two on Lindsey Mikulecky's two-run blast in the bottom of the first. The Titans responded with six runs in the second and five in the third to pull away for the victory.

Lindsay Nauman took the loss for Elmhurst, allowing 10 hits and nine earned runs in 2.1 innings pitched. She walked three and struck out three in the loss.

Elmhurst hosts North Central College on Tuesday, April 5.
