Softball Team Blanks Lawrence; Shut Out By Chicago

Julie Devine drove in six runs to lead the Elmhurst College softball team to a 12-0 five-inning victory over Lawrence University. The Bluejays were then shut out 6-0 by the University of Chicago.

ELMHURST 12, LAWRENCE 0 - Elmhurst (10-18) scored four runs in the first and broke the game open in the second by plating eight runs.
Devine delivered the big blow in each inning for the Bluejays. She smashed a two-out, three-run double in the first inning and belted a two-out, three-run homer in the second inning.

Clare Bukowski also had a big day at the plate, recording a pair of hits and driving in three runs. Lindsey Mikulecky also drove in a pair and scored twice in the win. Amanda Bowlin was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and scored three runs.

Lindsay Nauman earned the win for the Bluejays, pitching a complete game shutout in the process. Nauman allowed just three hits. She walked five and struck out six.

CHICAGO 6, ELMHURST 0 - Chicago's Kim Cygan pitched a complete-game, three hit shutout to lead the Maroons to a 6-0 win over Elmhurst.

Chicago scored a run in the second, two in the fifth, and three in the sixth to take control of the contest.

The Bluejays had runners on base in every inning, but the Bluejays stranded 11 runners in the contest.

Cygan scattered three hits over seven innings for the Maroons. She walked eight and struck out three.

Stephanie Iori took the loss for Elmhurst. Iori surrendered eight hits and just two earned runs in six innings of work. She walked four and fanned two.

Elmhurst resumes CCIW play by travelling to Wheaton College on Monday, April 18.
