ELMHURST, Ill - Benedictine used a two-out game-tying triple in the seventh inning to rally for a doubleheader sweep of the Elmhurst College softball team. Benedictine toppled the Bluejays 4-0 in game one and completed the sweep with a 10-4 eight-inning victory.
BENEDICTINE 4, ELMHURST 0 - A four-run first inning for the Eagles proved to be too much for the Bluejays to overcome in the loss. Brittany Wolski led off the game with a walk and scored on Brittany Adcox's RBI triple. Kara Walsh squeezed home Walsh to stake the Eagles to a 2-0 advantage. Benedictine (22-4) tacked on a pair of runs in the inning on a run-scoring groundout and an Elmhurst error to lead 4-0.
Adcox held the Bluejays' bats in check for the entire game. The Benedictine pitcher surrendered just two hits while not allowing a walk. She struck out five Bluejays while recording her 10th win of the season.
Lindsay Nauman pitched well for Elmhurst despite taking the loss. Nauman allowed just four hits and three earned runs. She walked three while fanning seven.
Amanda Bowlin and
Rose Wysocki recorded the only hits for the Bluejays.
BENEDICTINE 10, ELMHURST 4 - The Eagles used a six-run eighth inning to complete the sweep of Elmhurst with a 10-4 victory.
Elmhurst (8-16) had the Eagles down to their final out in the seventh inning, but Wolski delivered a two-out, game-tying triple to send the game to extra innings.
Benedictine exploded for six runs in the eighth. Walsh led off the inning with a solo homer to left field. Three straight singles followed by a hit batter gave the Eagles a two-run cushion. Kelly Mieszala added a two-run double and a pair of Elmhurst errors allowed two more runs to score.
Elmhurst trailed 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth, but
Lindsey Mikulecky drew a bases loaded walk to force home a run.
Clare Bukowski tied the score at 3-3 in the sixth when she led off the inning with a solo blast to left field.
Sarah Cademartori gave Elmhurst the lead when she singled home a run.
Erika Schwartz led Elmhurst at the plate with three hits while also scoring a pair of runs. Cademartori, Bowlin, and Wysocki recorded two hits apiece in the loss.
Stephanie Iori took the loss for Elmhurst after allowing 13 hits and seven earned runs in eight innings of work. She walked two and struck out two in the loss.
Elmhurst travels to Judson University on Saturday, April 16.
