Softball Team Wraps Up Florida Trip By Splitting Two Games

CLERMONT, Fla. -
The Elmhurst College softball team wrapped up its Florida road trip with a 5-9 overall record after splitting its final two games at the NTC Spring Games.

The Bluejays opened the day with a 3-0 shutout win over SUNY-New Paltz before falling to Buena Vista University 10-0. 

ELMHURST 3, NEW PALTZ 0  - Stephanie Iori tossed a complete game shutout to lead Elmhurst to a 3-0 victory over SUNY-New Paltz.

Elmhurst jumped on the scoreboard in the second inning when Katie Hruby led off the frame with a single and then scored on Julie Devine's RBI double. Elmhurst made it 3-0 in the fifth inning when Clare Bukowski singled home Amanda Bowlin and a New Paltz error allowed Lindsey Mikulecky to score.

Bowlin and Hruby finished with two hits apiece in the victory.

Iori scattered seven hits and two walks over seven innings to record the win for the Bluejays. She fanned eight while improving to 3-5 on the season.

BUENA VISTA 10, ELMHURST 0 - Buena Vista ended Elmhurst's three-game winning streak with a 10-0 five-inning win.

Buena Vista did the majority of its damage in the second inning. The Beavers sent 11 batters to the plate and scored seven runs on five singles. The Beavers were aided by a walk and a pair of Elmhurst errors in the frame.  Susan Kies put the game out of reach in the fourth inning when she cracked a three-run homer to give the Beavers the 10-0 victory.

Mikulecky collected two of Elmhurst's four hits in the loss.

Lindsay Nauman took the loss for the Bluejays. Nauman allowed eight hits and seven earned runs in 3.1 innings. She walked two and struck out two while falling to 2-4 on the year.

Elmhurst travels to Lake Forest College on Sunday, March 27.
