CLERMONT, Fla. - The Elmhurst College softball team snapped an eight-game skid by sweeping a pair of games at the NTC Spring Games in Florida. The Bluejays blanked Colby College 8-0 behind Lindsay Nauman's no-hitter and then ended the day with a 7-2 victory over the University of Southern Maine.
ELMHURST 8, COLBY 0 - Elmhurst scored three in the fourth and plated five runs in the fifth to earn the eight-run, five-inning victory.
Nauman (2-3) tossed her first collegiate no-hitter and shut out Colby over five innings. She faced only two batters more than the minimum. She walked one and struck out four. One runner reached base on an Elmhurst error.
Elmhurst broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with three runs. Lindsey Mikulecky doubled home Amanda Bowlin and then scored on an error. Clare Bukowski followed with a solo homer to stake the Bluejays to a three-run lead.
The Bluejays scored five times in the fifth to put the game out of reach. The Bluejays loaded the bases with one out and Rose Wysocki followed with an RBI single. Erika Schwartz drew a bases loaded walk to force home a run and Julie Devine followed with a two-run single. Katie Hruby added an RBI single for the Bluejays in the inning.
Elmhurst totaled 10 hits in the game with Devine finishing a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. Mikulecky and Hruby each collected two hits in the win.
ELMHURST 7, SOUTHERN MAINE 2 - Elmhurst jumped out to a 3-0 lead and then tacked on four insurance runs in the fifth to pull away for a 7-2 victory.
Bowlin started the scoring in the first inning with an RBI single. Gina Venier roped a two-run double in the second to give Elmhurst a 3-0 lead. After Southern Maine scored twice in the third, the Bluejays put the game out of reach in the fifth inning. Mikulecky, Hruby, and Devine all singled home runs in the fifth.
Venier and Mikulecky each recorded two hits in the victory.
Stephanie Iori moved to 2-5 on the season with the victory. Iori worked all seven innings, allowing just two runs on five hits. She walked two while striking out eight.
