Bluejay Softball Team Drops Two on Spring Trip

The Elmhurst College softball team saw its record drop to 2-8 overall following a pair of losses at the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Fla.

The Bluejays opened the day with a 6-5 loss to Eastern Connecticut State University and then fell to Benedictine University 7-3. After starting the trip with a 2-1 record, the Bluejays have now dropped seven straight contests.

ECSU 6, ELMHURST 5 - Elmhurst rallied from a 6-1 deficit, but came up short in the end, falling to Eastern Connecticut State 6-5.

ECSU jumped out to a 6-1 lead after scoring two in the first, one in the second, and three in the sixth. Elmhurst got a run back in the fourth when Erika Schwartz singled home Rose Wysocki. The Bluejays took advantage of a pair of errors in the sixth inning to score four unearned runs. Lindsey Mikulecky keyed the inning with a two-run single. Elmhurst stranded the tying run on second in the sixth.

Sarah Cademartori, Clare Bukowski, and Katie Hruby collected two hits apiece in the loss. Cademartori added an RBI for the Bluejays.

Stephanie Iori slipped to 1-5 after taking the loss. Iori allowed 11 hits and five runs over seven innings. She walked five and struck out two.

BENEDICTINE 7, ELMHURST 3 - Elmhurst jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but Benedictine scored twice in the fourth and fifth innings and the Eagles tacked on three insurance runs in the sixth to pull away for the 7-3 win.

Julie Devine singled home a run in the second to put Elmhurst on top 1-0. Mikulecky and Wysocki drove in runs in the third to put Elmhurst up 3-0. Benedictine jumped in front 4-3 after scoring twice in the fourth and fifth innings. The Eagles took advantage of an Elmhurst error in the sixth to score three unearned runs and put the game out of reach.

Devine finished with a pair of hits to lead the Bluejays' offense.

Lindsay Nauman took the loss, surrendering three earned runs and nine hits over six innings. She walked three and struck out two.

Elmhurst continues play at the NTC Spring Games on Thursday, March 24.
