BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's tennis team closed out the 2010 season by placing sixth at the 2010 CCIW Championship after falling 5-4 to Illinois Wesleyan University in the fifth-place match.
Illinois Wesleyan scored wins at two of the three doubles matches, and the Titans and Bluejays split the six singles contests giving the Titans the 5-4 win.
Elmhurst's
David Devaney scored a 7-5, 6-3 win over IWU's Brian Piotrowski at No. 1 singles. The Titans' Tom Deschler toppled
Dave Douglass 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2 singles while Nick Kenaga downed Elmhurst's
Dean Leventis 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Elmhurst's
Justin Guenther scored a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Michael Christison at No. 4 singles while
Jim White added a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Steven Hayman at No. 5 singles. IWU's Sandeep Kola defeated
Eric Moss 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
In doubles action, Piotrowski and Deschler combined to topple Douglass and White 8-5 at No. 1 doubles while Kenaga and Christison defeated Devaney and Leventis 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. The duo of Guenther and Moss defeated Hayman and Sandeep 8-5 at No. 3 doubles to give Elmhurst's its only point in doubles play.
Elmhurst closed out the 2010 season with a 7-15 overall record.
