APPLETON, Wis. - The Elmhurst College softball team closed out the 2010 season by splitting a pair of contests at Lawrence University at Whiting Field in Appleton, Wis.
Elmhurst, who finished the season with a 22-16 overall record, blanked Lawrence 9-0 in game one, but Lawrence (16-16 overall) earned the doubleheader split by toppling Elmhurst 6-5 in nine innings in game two.
ELMHURST 9, LAWRENCE 0 (Game One) - Elmhurst scored six runs in the fifth inning to blow open a scoreless game en route to a 9-0 victory.
A two-run double by
Amanda Bowlin and a two-run homer from
Maureen Roderick sparked the Bluejays' six-run fifth-inning.
Elmhurst tacked on a run in the sixth and scored two more in the seventh to earn the 9-0 shutout win.
Bowlin and Roderick both finished 3-for-4 to lead the Bluejays' offense. Bowlin drove in two, while Roderick finished with three RBI.
Stephanie Iori recorded her 14th win of the season by pitching the shutout. Iori scattered five hits and two walks over seven innings. She struck out seven batters in the victory.
LAWRENCE 6, ELMHURST 5 (Game Two) - Lawrence earned the doubleheader split by rallying for a 6-5 win in nine innings.
Lawrence scored the game-winning run on a throwing error on the Bluejays.
Roderick finished with four hits to lead the Bluejays in the loss. Bowlin collected three hits while
Michele Fournier finished with three hits, two runs scored, and two RBI. Fournier added a solo homer in the first inning.
Lindsay Nauman made the start and took a no-decision, allowing just three hits and four walks. All five runs scored off of Nauman were unearned, as the Bluejays committed six errors in the game. Nauman struck out eight. Iori took the loss in relief, working 0.2 innings and allowing one unearned run while collecting two strikeouts.
