Bluejay Softball Team Swept By North Central

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -
The Elmhurst College softball team fell to 12-8 overall and 0-2 in CCIW competition after dropping both ends of a doubleheader to North Central College.

North Central (16-4, 2-0 CCIW) pounded Elmhurst 11-1 to take game one, and the Cardinals rallied do edge Elmhurst 2-1 in the second game.

NORTH CENTRAL 11, ELMHURST 1 (Game One) - North Central banged out 12 hits and utilized a pair of big innings to score the 11-1 victory over Elmhurst.

The Bluejays jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after Maureen Roderick singled home Becca Zumpf in the top of the first inning.

The Cardinals evened the score at one with a run in the first inning. The Cardinals struck four four runs int he second to take a 5-1 lead. North Central sealed the win by scoring six runs in the bottom of the sixth to score the 11-1 win.

Roderick and Sarah Cademartori recorded two hits apiece in the Bluejays' loss. 

Lindsay Nauman took the loss for the Bluejays after surrendering 10 hits and nine runs (eight earned) in 5.1 innings of work. She walked one and fanned two.

North Central's Holly Roadruck kept the Bluejays' bats quiet. She allowed just five hits and one earned run in six innings pitched.

NORTH CENTRAL 2, ELMHURST 1  (Game Two) - North Central finished the doubleheader sweep with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory.

Elmhurst jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Rose Wysocki smashed a two-out double and scored on Roderick's RBI single to give the Bluejays the lead.

North Central evened the score in the fourth on Kara Reid's two-out RBI single. The Cardinals took the lead in the fifth inning on Laura Whitfield's two-out RBI single. 

Elmhurst put the tying run in scoring position in both the sixth and seventh innings, but the Bluejays were unable to drive home the tying run.

Wysocki led the Bluejays' offense by finishing 3-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.

Stephanie Iori pitched well despite taking the loss. Iori allowed just eight hits and two runs in seven innings. She struck out three while not issuing a walk.

Lyndsey Payne scored the win for North Central, limiting Elmhurst to just six hits and one run in 6.2 innings of work. She fanned two while not issuing a walk. Roadruck retired the final batter to notch the save.

Elmhurst hosts Dominican University on Thursday, April 8.
