NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's tennis team slid to 7-11 overall and 0-5 in CCIW play following a 7-2 loss to North Central College at Ranchview Park.
North Central won five of the six singles matches and two of the three doubles contests en route to the 7-2 victory.
North Central's Sam Sweeney toppled Elmhurst's
David Devaney 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles while the Cardinals' Matt Boguslawski defeated the Bluejays'
Dave Douglass 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2 singles. Elmhurst's
Dean Leventis scored the Bluejays' only point in singles play, toppling Chris Bennorth 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. North Central's Naveed Heydari defeated Elmhurst's
Justin Guenther 2-6, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles while the Cardinals' Eric McKee (6-3, 7-6 over
Jim White) and Josh Clay (6-4, 4-6, 7-5 over
Eric Moss) added wins at No. 5 and No.6 singles, respectively.
In doubles play, Sweeney and Boguslawski teamed to defeat Devaney and Douglass 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. The tandem of Moss and Leventis scored Elmhurst a point at No. 2 doubles by defeating Bennorth and Heydari 8-5. McKee and Clay scored NCC an 8-6 win over White and Guenther at No. 3 doubles.
Elmhurst travels to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Saturday, May 1.
