ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's tennis team improved to 7-10 overall after scoring an 8-1 victory over Oakton College.
The Bluejays won five of the six singles matches and swept all three doubles contests.
Dave Douglass started singles play with a 2-6, 6-4, 10-6 win over Oakton's Sergey Kindiakov at No. 1 singles. Elmhurst's David Devaney blanked David Regus 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles while Oakton's Alex Gohmann scored his team's only point with a 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 win over Elmhurst's Dean Leventis at No. 3 singles. Justin Guenther defeated Ilan Meerovich 7-6, 2-6, 10-4 at No. 4 singles while Jim White (6-0, 6-0 win over Danny Beker) and Eric Moss (6-2, 6-1 victory over Romeo Pahati) added Elmhurst wins at No. 5, and No. 6 singles, respectively.
In doubles play, the team of Devaney and Douglass downed Kindiakov and Meerovich 8-6 at No. 1 doubles while Leventis and Moss teamed to topple Redus and Becker 8-2 at No. 2 doubles. Guenther and White added an 8-1 win over Pahati and Gohmann at No. 3 doubles.
Elmhurst plays at North Central College on April 29.
