Softball Team Splits Pair at Aurora

AURORA, Ill. - The Elmhurst College softball team upped its record to 20-12 on the season after rallying for a doubleheader split at Aurora University.

Aurora (23-6) scored a 5-2 victory in game one, but the Bluejays rallied for a 2-1 win in game two.

AURORA 5, ELMHURST 2 (Game One) - Aurora improved to 23-5 on the season by toppling Elmhurst 5-2 in the first game of a doubleheader.

Elmhurst grabbed a 2-1 lead in the second inning when Maggie Yagen doubled home a pair of runs. 

The Bluejays' lead was short lived as the Spartans scored three times in the bottom of the third to take the lead. Aurora tacked on an insurance run in the fifth inning to secure the 5-2 win. 

Amanda Bowlin recorded two of Elmhurst's eight hits in the loss.

Lindsay Nauman took the loss for the Bluejays, dropping to 7-7 on the season. She allowed nine hits and five runs in six innings of work. She walked four and struck out four in the loss. 

ELMHURST 2, AURORA 1 (Game Two) - Elmhurst scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to rally for a 2-1 victory over Aurora to earn the doubleheader split.

Elmhurst left runners on the bases in the opening four innings before breaking through in the seventh. Maureen Roderick and Julie Devine led off the inning with consecutive singles. Rose Wysocki followed with a bunt single to load the bases for the Bluejays. After a force out at home, Jill Karsa singled home the tying run, and Wysocki scored on an Aurora error to give the Bluejays the lead.

Stephanie Iori upped her record to 12-5 on the season by picking up the victory for the Bluejays. Iori surrendered just six hits and one run in seven innings. She walked one while fanning two.

Elmhurst resumes CCIW play this weekend by playing at Augustana College on Saturday, April 24.
