Softball Team Crushes North Park For Two Wins

ELMHURST, Ill. -
The Elmhurst College softball team upped its record to 16-10 overall and 4-4 in the CCIW by sweeping North Park University in a doubleheader.

Elmhurst battered the Vikings in game one, scoring a 10-2 victory in a five-inning contest. The Bluejays finished the sweep by hammering North Park (13-11. 1-5 CCIW) 7-1 in game two.

ELMHURST 10, NORTH PARK 2 (Game One) - Elmhurst banged out 12 hits en route to scoring a 10-2 win over North Park in the opening game of the twin bill. 

The Bluejays scored in every inning except the first, and used a six-run fourth inning to blow the game open.

North Park scored twice in the top of the fourth to pull to within a run, but the Bluejays exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fourth. 

Elmhurst banged out five hits in the sixth and were aided by a pair of costly North Park errors. With one out and the bases loaded, Bowlin singled home a run. Rose Wysocki followed with a run-scoring single to give Elmhurst a 5-2 lead and keep the bases loaded. A dropped throw by North Park allowed the Bluejays to score an unearned run and keep the bags full. Jill Karsa singled to left to drive in a pair of runs and an error on the Vikings allowed Maureen Roderick to score to give Elmhurst a 9-3 advantage.

Bowlin ended the game in the fifth by blasting a double to center field to drive in Zumpf and give Elmhurst the 10-2 victory.

Bowlin finished 3-for-3 with three runs driven in to lead the Bluejays' offense. Zumpf added a pair of hits and scored three runs while Karsa drove in two.

Stephanie Iori improved to 9-5 with the victory for the Bluejays. Iori scattered five hits and a pair of runs in five innings of work. She walked one and fanned four.

ELMHURST 7, NORTH PARK 0 (Game Two) - Elmhurst completed the doubleheader sweep by defeating North Park 7-1.

The Bluejays jumped out to a 3-0 lead by plating three runs in the third inning. The Bluejays loaded the bases with no outs and Cademartori singled home a run to put the Bluejays on top 1-0. Bowlin followed with a two-run single to give Elmhurst a 3-0 advantage. 

Katie Hruby drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth and Bowlin tripled home a run in the fifth to make the score 5-0. Roderick added a sacrifice fly and Cademartori doubled home Elmhurst's final run in the sixth to give Elmhurst a 7-0 cushion.

North Park scored a run in the seventh to make the final score 7-1 in favor of the Bluejays. 

Cademartori finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a run score and two RBI while Bowlin drove in three runs for the second straight contest. Fournier added three hits in the win for Elmhurst.

Iori became Elmhurst's first 10-game winner since the 2001 season by recording back-to-back victories. Iori (10-5) worked six innings and scattered five hits and one run. She walked two while striking out three.
