ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College softball team moved to 14-10 overall and 2-4 in CCIW play after splitting a doubleheader with Wheaton College.
Wheaton (16-14, 2-4 CCIW) blanked the Bluejays 7-0 in game one, but Elmhurst scored a 5-1 victory in the night cap.
WHEATON 7, ELMHURST 0 (Game One) - Wheaton shutout Elmhurst 7-0 in game one to drop the Bluejays to 1-4 in CCIW play.
The Thunder scored two runs in the first and added a pair in the second to take a 4-0 lead. The Thunder tacked on a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to seal the victory.
Wheaton's Ainsley McCullough limited Elmhurst to only seven hits while scoring her ninth victory of the year.
Lindsay Nauman dropped to 6-5 with the loss for the Bluejays. Nauman allowed eight hits and seven runs (five earned) while walking five and striking out three.
Rose Wysocki and
Michele Fournier collected two hits apiece for Elmhurst in the loss.
ELMHURST 5, WHEATON 1 (Game Two) - Elmhurst earned the split with Wheaton by upending the Thunder 5-1 in game two.
Wheaton jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Adrienne Munoz led off the bottom of the first with a solo homer.
Elmhurst loaded the bases with one out in the second inning and
Hruby singled home a run to knot the score at one.
The Bluejays took a 3-1 lead in the fourth by plating a pair of runs. Elmhurst loaded the bases with one out and Hruby delivered her second RBI single of the game to drive home
Maureen Roderick.
Becca Zumpf followed with a sacrifice fly to put Elmhurst up by a pair of runs.
Gina Venier tacked on two insurance runs in the fifth by smashing a two-run double.
Roderick finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of runs scored.
Stephanie Iori improved to 8-5 with the victory for the Bluejays. Iori scattered eight hits and allowed just the solo homer to Munoz. She stuck out four while not issuing a walk.
Elmhurst hosts North Park University on Thursday, April 15.
