Softball Team Wraps Up Florida Trip With 9-3 Mark

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Elmhurst College softball team wrapped up its 12-game road trip to Florida by splitting its final two contests. The Bluejays finished their road trip with a 9-3 record, improving to 12-6 on the season.

Elmhurst dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Loras in nine innings to open the day, but the Bluejays bounced back from the loss to hammer Manchester 11-0.

LORAS 3, ELMHURST 2 - Elmhurst dropped to 11-6 on the season after falling 3-2 in nine innings to Loras. The Duhawks used a pair of two-out singles to score the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the ninth.

Elmhurst led 1-0 in the first inning after Becca Zumpf tripled and scored on Rose Wysocki's RBI single. Loras evened the score with a run in the bottom of the third. 

The Bluejays had plenty of chances to avoid extra innings, but the Bluejays stranded 10 runners, including seven runners in scoring position.

With international rules in play, both teams began the extra innings with a runner at second. Elmhurst failed to score in the eighth after Wysocki was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a bunt attempt. After Loras failed to score in the bottom of the eighth, the Bluejays pushed home a run in the ninth when Maggie Yagen beat a throw to the plate on a grounder from Gina Venier

Loras loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and Duhawks used back-to-back singles to score the 3-2 walk-off victory.

Lindsay Nauman
 dropped to 5-3 while taking the tough loss for the Bluejays. Nauman worked 8.2 innings and allowed just nine hits and four walks. She allowed just one earned run while striking out nine. 

ELMHURST 11, MANCHESTER 0 - Elmhurst rebounded from the loss to Loras by crushing Manchester College 11-0 in five innings. 

The Bluejays scored three runs in the second, three in the fourth, and five in the fifth to score the 11-run victory.

Elmhurst banged out 11 hits in the contest with Zumpf led the way with a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Zumpf scored a run and drove in two in the win. Michele Fournier finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, scored two runs, and drove in three for the Bluejays. Amanda Bowlin collected a pair of hits and scored three runs for Elmhurst. 

Stephanie Iori improved to 7-3 on the season while notching the victory for Elmhurst. Iori scattered three hits and one walk while pitching the shutout. She struck out two in the win.
