CLERMONT, Fla. - The Elmhurst College softball team continued its solid play at the NTC Tournament by scoring a pair of shutout victories in Clermont, Fla.
The Bluejays began the day by blanking Oberlin College 8-0. Elmhurst followed the victory with a blowout 9-0 win over Grove City College to improve its overall record to 11-5 overall.
ELMHURST 8, OBERLIN 0 - The Bluejays scored their seventh win in nine Florida games by shutting out Oberlin 8-0 in a six-inning contest.
The Bluejays scored two runs in the first, four in the fourth, and a run in both fifth and sixth innings.
Maureen Roderick drove in a pair of runs to lead the Bluejays' offense while Becca Zumpf scored three runs and added an RBI. Amanda Bowlin and Rose Wysocki each drove in a run in the Elmhurst win.
Lindsay Nauman improved to 5-2 overall with the win. Nauman surrendered just two hits and three walks in six innings of work. She struck out six batters while pitching her second shutout of the season.
ELMHURST 9, GROVE CITY 0 - Elmhurst ran its record to 11-5 overall by hammering Grove City 9-0. The Bluejays scored in every inning while outhitting Grove City 13-3.
Zumpf collected three hits and drove in three runs to lead the Elmhurst offense. Maggie Yagen finished 2-for-2 at the plate, drove in two runs, and scored three times. Bowlin and Wysocki each collected a pair of hits while Maureen Roderick drove in two.
Stephanie Iori tossed her first shutout of the season while improving to 6-3 for Elmhurst. Iori allowed just three hits while not issuing a walk in five innings of work. She struck out five in the victory.
Elmhurst concludes its 12-game Florida trip with a pair of games on Wednesday, March 31.
