WHITEWATER, Wis. - The Elmhurst College volleyball team moved to 6-7 overall after splitting a pair of matches at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Invitational. The Bluejays fell to Iowa Wesleyan University in five sets but rebounded to defeat the University of Wisconsin-River Falls 3-0.
IOWA WESLEYAN 3, ELMHURST 2 - Elmhurst began the tournament with a 25-18, 23-25, 21-25, 25-16, 9-15 loss to Iowa Wesleyan University. Lindy Melville finished with a team-high 25 assists in the loss while Alexa Kiess finished with 15 assists. Antonéya Veasy Smith led Elmhurst with 14 kills in the loss. Lisa Burger totaled 12 kills while Jameela Chaudhry led the team in digs with 21. Melissa Miehlke added three aces in the loss.
ELMHURST 3, UW-RIVER FALLS 0 - The Bluejays bounced back from their opening round defeat to blank the University of Wisconsin-River Falls 29-27, 25-15, 25-20 in the nightcap. Melville and Kiess finished with 16 assists apiece in the victory. Veasy Smith pounded down a team-leading 13 kills while Caitlin O'Hara chipped in with 10 kills, four blocks, and two aces. Burger added eight kills while Paige Fombelle recorded four blocks. Katie Buechel tallied a team-high 25 digs in the victory.
The win over UW-River Falls marked career victory 399 for Elmhurst head coach Julie Hall.
Hall will look for her 400th career win when Elmhurst faces the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and the tournament host, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, on day two of the tournament (September 26).
