Bluejay Softball Team Drops Pair at IWU

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Elmhurst College softball team fell to 13-19 overall and 2-12 in CCIW competition after dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Illinois Wesleyan University.

Illinois Wesleyan (28-3, 12-0 CCIW) blanked Elmhurst 6-0 in game one and scored a 7-3 victory over Elmhurst in game two.

ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 6, ELMHURST 0 (Game One) - Illinois Wesleyan's Christy Engel fired a no-hitter while lifting Illinois Wesleyan to a 6-0 shutout victory over Elmhurst.

Engel scattered four walks over seven innings while striking out five.

The Titans scored a run in each of the first three innings and then plated three runs in the fifth to score the 6-0 win.

Lindsay Nauman (6-9) took the loss for Elmhurst. She was tagged for seven hits and six runs (four earned) in 4.1 innings of work. She walked seven and struck out one in the loss.

ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 7, ELMHURST 3 (Game Two) - The Titans completed the doubleheader sweep by scoring a 7-3 win in game two.

The Titans jumped out to a 4-1 lead after two-and-a-half innings. Elmhurst battled back by scoring two runs in the bottom of the third. Maggie Yagen singled home a run. Yagen later scored on a Maureen Roderick fielder's choice.

The Titans added two runs in the fourth and a run in the fifth to pull away for the 7-3 win.

Vanessa Kalal (4-8) took the loss for the Bluejays. Kalal allowed 12 hits and seven runs (six earned) in seven innings of work. She walked one and struck out four.
