Bluejay Softball Team Drops Two At Wheaton

WHEATON, Ill. - The Elmhurst softball team slipped to 13-17 overall and 2-10 in CCIW play after dropping a pair of games at Wheaton College.

Elmhurst was shut out in both games as Wheaton (16-18, 4-8 CCIW) won game on 2-0 and then blanked the Bluejays 9-0 in game two.

WHEATON 2, ELMHURST 0 (Game One) - Wheaton won the opening game of the doubleheader by blanking the Bluejays 2-0.

The Thunder scored a run in the third and tacked on an unearned run in the sixth to earn the victory.

Elmhurst outhit Wheaton 7-3, but the Bluejays stranded seven runners in the game. The Bluejays had runners at first and second with only one out in the first, but Lauren Ventrella was cut down trying to steal third. The Bluejays also had runners on the corners with only one out in the fourth, but a double play ended the Elmhurst threat.

Maggie Yagen and Melissa McCarthy recorded two hits apiece in the loss.

Vanessa Kalal (4-7) took the loss for the Bluejays despite allowing just four hits and one earned run. She walked one and struck out four.

WHEATON 9, ELMHURST 0 (Game Two) - Wheaton battered the Bluejays 9-0 in six innings to finish the doubleheader sweep.

The Thunder struck for five runs in the first inning after a pair of Bluejay errors allowed the inning to continue. Wheaton tacked on runs in the third and fourth innings, and scored two more runs in the sixth to earn the 9-0 victory.

Elmhurst managed just one hit in the contest, a McCarthy single in the third inning.

Lindsay Nauman (6-8) took the loss for the Bluejays. She was tagged for five hits and six runs (just one earned) in two innings of work. She walked five and struck out one.

Elmhurst plays at Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday, April 25.
