CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst College softball team dropped to 12-12 overall and 1-7 in CCIW play after being swept in a doubleheader by North Park University.
North Park (11-11, 3-3 CCIW) blasted Elmhurst 10-1 in game number one and completed the sweep with a 1-0 shutout win in the second game.
The Bluejays have now dropped seven straight games and have lost nine of their last 10 contests.
NORTH PARK 10, ELMHURST 1 (Game One) - North Park hammered Elmhurst 10-1 to start the doubleheader. Leading 4-1 after three innings, the Vikings scored six times in the fourth to score the 10-1 five-inning win.
The Bluejays' only run came in the second when Sarah Cademartori led off the frame with a double. Michele Fournier grounded out to short, but a North Park throwing error allowed Cademartori to score on the play. The run by Elmhurst evened the score at 1-1.
North Park scored three unearned runs in the second to take a 4-1 advantage, setting the stage for the Vikings' six-run fourth inning.
Becca Zumpf finished 3-for-3 at the plate in the loss. Cademartori added two hits for the Bluejays.
Lindsay Nauman (6-5) took the loss. She worked 3.1 innings and allowed seven runs (four earned) on six hits and five walks.
NORTH PARK 1, ELMHURST 0 (Game Two) - North Park's Mallory Bieritz held Elmhurst to just one hit while leading the Vikings to a 1-0 shutout victory.
North Park scored an unearned run in the third to account for the game's only run.
Elmhurst had scoring chances. An error on North Park allowed Maggie Yagen to get to third base with one out in the fifth, but the Vikings picked off Yagen to end the threat.
An error and a walk gave the Bluejays runners at first and second with no outs in the sixth, but North Park cut down the lead runner on a double steal attempt.
Zumpf recorded Elmhurst's only hit in the loss.
Vanessa Kalal (3-5) pitched well for Elmhurst despite taking the loss. She scattered five hits and allowed only an unearned run while pitching a complete game.
Elmhurst travels to Millikin University on Saturday, April 18.
