FOREST PARK, Ill. - The Elmhurst College softball team ran its record to 11-3 on the season by sweeping a doubleheader at Dominican University. Elmhurst won game one 6-2 and scored an 11-3 victory in game two of the doubleheader.
ELMHURST 6, DOMINICAN 2 (Game One) - Lindsay Nauman tossed a complete game to help Elmhurst to a 6-2 victory in the first game of the doubleheader. Nauman allowed just one earned run while scattering five hits and three walks over seven innings. She struck out eight Dominican batters in the win.
Melissa McCarthy and Michele Fournier recorded two hits apiece to spark the Bluejays' offense. Julie Devine drove in a pair of runs while Rachel Pietrucha and Amanda Bowlin each recorded an RBI in the win. Becca Zumpf scored a pair of runs and stole two bases in the win.
ELMHURST 11, DOMINICAN 3 (Game Two) - Elmhurst pounded Dominican 11-3 in a shortened five-inning contest. Zumpf finished 4-for-4 at the dish, with three singles and a double. She also drove in a run in the victory. Pietrucha and Fournier each recorded two hits. Fournier also stole a base and drove in two runs. Lauren Ventrella doubled and drove home three runs.
Amber Schwarzinger earned the win from the mound, throwing a complete game. She allowed just five hits and and two walks over five innings while striking out three.
Elmhurst hosts Aurora University on Thursday, April 2, at 3:00 p.m.
