Bluejay Softball Team Splits Final Florida Games

CLERMONT, Fla.- The Elmhurst College softball team concluded its spring break trip to the NTC Games in Florida with a 9-3 overall record. The Bluejays split their final two contests, falling to Eastern Connecticut 7-3, and defeating Southern Maine 6-0.

EASTERN CONNECTICUT 7, ELMHURST 3 - Elmhurst fell to Eastern Connecticut for the second time this week.

Lindsay Nauman suffered the loss for the Bluejays despite not allowing an earned run. Nauman worked three innings and allowed just two unearned runs and two hits. She walked three and struck out three in the loss. Amber Schwarzinger finished up, allowing just two earned runs and five hits in four innings.  Three Elmhurst errors led to five unearned runs for Eastern Connecticut.

Maureen Roderick led the Bluejays' offense with a 2-for-3 day at the plate. Roderick added a double and two RBI. Melissa McCarthy added an RBI in the loss.

SOUTHERN MAINE 6, ELMHURST 0 - The Bluejays wrapped up their road trip with a 6-0 shutout loss over Southern Maine.

Vanessa Kalal twirled a one-hit complete game shutout to lead the Bluejays to the win. Kalal took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before a base hit broke up the no-hit bid. She walked one and struck out four in the victory.

Jill Karsa finished 2-for-3 at the plate while Amanda Bowlin doubled and drove in a pair of runs. McCarthy also recorded two hits in the Bluejays' win.

Elmhurst plays at Dominican University on Tuesday, March 31.
