CLERMONT, Fla. (March 24, 2009) - The Elmhurst College softball team continued its hot start to the 2009 season by winning a pair of contests at the NTC Spring Games in Florida. The Bluejays toppled Manchester College 6-3, and then blew out D'Youville College 12-0.
With the victories, Elmhurst improved to 8-2 on the season.
ELMHURST 6, MANCHESTER 3 - Elmhurst started its fifth day of competition in Florida by doubling up Manchester College 6-3.
Lindsay Nauman pitched a complete game to help propel the Bluejays to the win. Nauman (4-0) scattered seven hits and two walks while allowing just one earned run. She struck out four batters in the victory.
Julie Devine and Maureen Roderick both sparked the Bluejays' offense. Roderick finished 2-or-4 with a two RBI while Devine had a 2-for-3 day at the plate with a run scored and two runs driven in. Rachel Hartman andSarah Cademartori also collected two hits apiece in the victory. Cademartori also collected an RBI in the victory.
ELMHURST 12, D'YOUVILLE 0 - The Bluejays scored their second shutout of the season by blasting D'Youville College 12-0 in a five-inning contest.
Amber Schwarzinger worked four scoreless innings, allowing just two hits to earn the victory. Schwarzinger fanned three. Cyndi Duff tossed the game's final inning, allowing just one hit while striking out a pair.
Devine continued to swing a hot bat, recording three hits in four at bats. She finished with a double and five runs driven in. Lauren Ventrella totaled two hits, two stolen bases, three runs scored, and an RBI in the Bluejays' win. Michele Fournier and Rachel Pietrucha both finished with two base hits and two runs scored. Fournier and Liz McAllister also drove in two runs apiece.
