Bluejays Strike Late to Earn Draw Against Knox

ELMHURST, Ill. — The Elmhurst University men's soccer team rallied late to earn a 2-2 draw against Knox College on Saturday evening at Langhorst Field.

Elmhurst (1-0-1) took an early lead when Andrew Walters converted a penalty kick in the fifth minute. The Bluejays held the 1-0 advantage through halftime, limiting Knox (1-0-1) to five shots in the opening 45 minutes.

The Prairie Fire pulled even in the 55th minute when Kestervens Dera converted a penalty kick. The visitors then took a 2-1 lead in the 85th minute when Santiago Henriques scored off an assist from Dera.

Jacob Wipke responded in the 87th minute with a goal off an assist from Nikolas Dabic to pull Elmhurst even at 2-2.

Neither team could find a game-winning goal in the final minutes as the match ended in a draw.

Walters led Elmhurst with four shots, while Wipke added three shots, including two on goal. Goalkeeper Jakub Wiktorczyk totaled two saves on the night.

Elmhurst finished with a 12-11 advantage in shots and held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks. The Bluejays also put six shots on goal compared to Knox's four.

Up Next: The Bluejays host the Washington University in St. Louis Bears on Monday, Sept. 7. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. from Langhorst Field.
