NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Elmhurst University women's volleyball team earned a convincing road victory, sweeping Saint Mary's College, 3-0, at the Angela Athletic & Wellness Complex on Tuesday night.
Elmhurst (9-5) controlled the match from the start, hitting .349 as a team while limiting Saint Mary's (9-7) to a .089 hitting percentage. The Bluejays totaled 42 kills compared with 30 for the Belles and held a 33-26 advantage in digs.
Katie Hurta led Elmhurst offensively with 14 kills on 19 attacks, finishing with a .684 hitting percentage.
Freddie Temple orchestrated the Elmhurst attack with 26 assists, while
Ella Duffy added 12 assists.
Defensively,
Elayna Ammerman led all Bluejays with 14 digs, while
Tzvetomira Tchohadjieva and Hurta each recorded four blocks.
Elmhurst set the tone in the opening set, hitting .417 as a team to pull away for a 25-17 victory.
The Bluejays continued their momentum in the second set, overcoming a competitive start to post a 25-20 win.
The Blue and White closed out the sweep with a 25-21 victory in the third set. The Bluejays finished the set with 14 kills and maintained control down the stretch to secure the 3-0 road win.
Up Next: The Bluejays travel to Chicago, Ill. on Friday, Oct. 2 to open College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play against North Park University. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Carlson Gymnasium.
