Women's Volleyball Starts CCIW Play With Sweep of North Park

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's volleyball team opened College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play in dominant fashion on Friday night, sweeping North Park University, 3-0, inside Carlson Gymnasium.

Elmhurst (10-5, 1-0 CCIW) controlled the match from the opening serve, earning set victories of 25-13, 25-20, and 25-8. The Bluejays finished the night hitting .446 as a team, while holding North Park (5-8, 0-2) to a .019 hitting percentage.

The Bluejays came out strong in the opening set, hitting .333 while holding North Park to a -.143 hitting percentage. Elmhurst pulled away early and cruised to a 25-13 victory.

North Park put up more resistance in the second set, but Elmhurst responded with its strongest offensive performance of the night. The Bluejays recorded 14 kills, while committing just one attack error and hit .591 on the way to a 25-20 win.

In the third set, the Blue and White limited North Park to five kills and 10 attack errors. The Bluejays hit .421 and closed out the sweep with a 25-8 victory.

Katie Hurta led the Bluejays offensively with 11 kills on 21 attacks, hitting .524 for the match. Paige Belfield and Samantha Webb each added eight kills, while Webb also recorded a team-high three service aces.

Freddie Temple guided the Elmhurst offense with 22 assists and added two aces, while Elayna Ammerman contributed five assists and a match-high 14 digs.

Defensively, Tzvetomira Tchohadjieva recorded four blocks, while Hurta added five blocks as Elmhurst finished with eight total blocks.

Up Next: Elmhurst welcomes the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans to Faganel Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 7. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
