ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 2 Illinois Wesleyan University on Wednesday night inside R.A. Faganel Hall.
Elmhurst (10-6, 1-1 CCIW) battled Illinois Wesleyan (15-1, 4-0) throughout the opening set, but the Titans pulled away late to take the first set, 25-22.
The Bluejays struggled to find their rhythm offensively in the second set, recording seven kills while Illinois Wesleyan posted 16 kills and hit .400 as a team. The Titans took the second set, 25-12, to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Elmhurst responded in the third set, keeping the Titans within reach throughout the frame. The Bluejays registered nine kills and held Illinois Wesleyan to a .303 hitting percentage, but the Titans closed out the match with a 25-21 set three victory.
Katie Hurta led the Blue and White with eight kills, adding 13 digs and two blocks to her stat line as well.
Maggie Cross followed with six kills and a team-high four blocks, while
Samantha Webb also recorded six kills.
Freddie Temple directed the Elmhurst offense with 23 assists, while
Elayna Ammerman contributed 13 digs.
As a team, Elmhurst hit .099, finishing with 28 kills and 18 errors in 101 attempts.
Illinois Wesleyan was led by Alex Bardouniotis with 12 kills, while Cailin Shannon added 10 of her own. Sophia Feeney finished with 22 assists for the Titans. As a team, Illinois Wesleyan hit .274, totaling 43 kills and 14 errors in 106 attempts.
