PASADENA, Calif. - Elmhurst University men's soccer traveled to Pasadena, Calif. Friday, Sept. 11 falling to California Institute of Technology 2-1. Elmhurst (1-2-1) matched Caltech (3-1-0) in attempts, and shots on goal but fell short late in the game.
The Bluejays' defense opened strong, Goalkeeper Nyan Ruffin saved two back-to-back shots, while another consecutive shot was blocked. Jakub Wipke answered with a shot only to be matched by Caltech's first goal a minute later. The Bluejays maintained the pressure, forcing saves on shots from Andrew Walters and Micah Wong. Walters closed out the first half with a corner kick as Elmhurst entered halftime trailing 1-0.
The Bluejays opened the second half slowly with some margin of errors, but continued to break through with a shot taken by Kerrigan, before Caltech was able to increase its lead 2-0.
Elmhurst returned the energy at 63:42 with a goal from Kerrigan to round out the night. Goalkeeper Nyan Ruffin played a role in the action, saving four of six shots to keep the deficit to minimum.
